Early learning and sensory play research

Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain’s pathways, which lead to the child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction.

What is ‘Serve and Return’ ?

Children’s life-long health, wellbeing, learning, and behavior are strongly connected to their early childhood experience.

Children are active co-constructors of knowledge through first-hand experiences in reciprocal relationships with people and things in their environment.

Flight is a curriculum framework intended to guide the significant work of early learning and child care educators with young children (ages 0 – before 6 years) and their families in centre-based child care and family day home settings. This is a flexible framework for thinking about how children learn and experience their worlds, as well as a guide that fosters strong early childhood communities.

Flight is intended to stimulate curriculum meaning making through professional dialogue within and across vibrant early childhood communities. Thinking about early learning and child care programs as early childhood communities reframes our image of educators as co-learners, co-researchers, and co-imaginers of possibilities with/in relationship with children and their families. Early childhood communities focused on strengthening family and community relationships become places of vitality for children, families, and educators.

Our centre follows Flight Framework  as a guiding document for our work with children and families. You can read more about our program philosophy here.
